Cologne is located in the mid-west of Germany and is part of North Rhine-Westphalia, the most densely populated German state. Dominating and dividing the city is the river Rhine. Cologne is well-known worldwide for its imposing cathedral situated right next to the main station and the annual ecstatic celebrations for carnival season. It is also the birthplace of the famous perfume “Eau de Cologne”. Although Cologne is Germany’s fourth largest city its urban lifestyle is very laid back and not too overwhelming which makes it popular with families.
The city is regarded as one of the most significant business locations hosting a large media sector as well as engineering, automotive, chemical, bio-technology and life-science industry. Due to the dense population of the area Cologne is also an easy commute to and from cities such as Leverkusen, Bonn and Düsseldorf.
