Child Friendly Restaurants in Munich

  • Kaiser Otto

Going back to the times when my children were crawling, I felt like there were hardly any places we could go to eat out without feeling stressed out and apologising profusely to the staff and all the other diners for the noise, mess and chaos we brought with us. Finding a restaurant that welcomes small children is just a god send and to be honest the food and atmosphere is almost irrelevant if you can get 5 minutes to eat your sandwich in peace. Kaiser Otto is a great, small, friendly little cafe where you can sit and have a coffee / enjoy a light meal and a bit of peace and quiet whilst your little ones play in the large adjoining kids room. It can get very noisy so definitely not recommended for people without kids! Although the menu is quite simple its nice organic food. I also went to a few kids birthday parties here as its a nice space to do them in.

  • Hofbraukeller

In terms of food not the very best Munich has to offer but the huge plus is you can eat in peace whilst your children play in a dedicated area with ball pit, arts/crafts, toys and books. In the winter this is inside but they move it outside in the summer. They have monitors so you really can "enjoy" your food whilst the kids play. Serves typical German food and beer

The Willy Wonka of icecream, Der Verrückte Eismacher is simply the best ice-cream parlour in the world full of crazy flavours for adults and children alike. They have so many amazing flavours which all taste delicious. We all love it there and its such a treat to go - not just for the icecream but also to catch a glimplse of Der Verrueckte Eismacher himself with his signature top hat and pink jacket.

Café de Bambini is an absolute MUST for parents with small children. There is a cafe serving snacks such as soup, pretzels, sandwiches, cakes etc (happy to prepare baby food) where you can sit and watch your kids on monitors whilst they play in the fantastic play area. They will also look after your little ones whilst your browse their delightful ecofriendly clothing and toys. Throughout the year they host a variety of events and courses for children and mothers.

  • Hirschgarten Munich

The Hirschgarten is gigantic and the largest of all the Biergarten in Munich. We really enjoy the food there but its also possible to bring your own if you can find a table without a table cloth. The Hirschgarten is surrounded by a large park area where you can see deer and horned sheep. Its really shady as the seats are all under huge chestnut trees. Kids can play in the playgrounds there (fantastic climbing wall) and also feed/pet the deer. We let ours run around the wide open fields surrounding the garden and they always have a fantastic time - especially in the wooded area in the back. My husband and I can sit and enjoy a beer (or two!) whilst the kids run riot!
